5 Must-Have Apps for New Mums in the Early Postpartum Phase

Being a new mum is a mix of joy, exhaustion, and constant multitasking as you try to keep up with your demanding new little boss, as well as recover from pregnancy and delivery. Between late-night feedings, adjusting to baby’s schedule (rather the lack thereof, actually!) and demands, and taking care of yourself, it can feel like there’s never enough time in the day. Thankfully, there are a few apps that made keeping up with everything just a little bit easier during the early postpartum period. Absolute must haves for staying sane, especially as a new mum/parent, because it takes a village… of apps!

1. Baby Sleep & Activity Tracker: Huckleberry

Best for: Tracking baby sleep patterns & optimizing naps

Sleep deprivation is a pretty much inevitable when you have a newborn, especially if you are breastfeeding. But a sleep tracking app can help you stay on top of making sure your baby is getting enough rest. My memory was (and honestly still is lol) shot during early postpartum and I could never tell you when baby woke up or went to sleep, even if I had said the time out loud when it happened 3 minutes ago!

I use and love Huckleberry. It is an excellent app for tracking your baby’s sleep, feedings, growth, and a host of other milestones and activities. I love the Insights that it shares as your baby grows, and the age appropriate suggestions for sleep and feeding.

You can track in the app for free, but “SweetSpot” is a paid feature which suggests nap and bed times for your baby based on age and sleep patterns and that take some of the guesswork and reliance on your memory out of the picture. Phew. I tried it out during a free trial and absolutely could not do without it after the trial ended. So I paid for the lowest level that would give me access to SweetSpot during a sale. Keep an eye out for sales if this sounds like a feature that would take a weight off your shoulders.

At this point, I was only tracking baby sleep so I could make good use of SweetSpot and take that off my things to remember list. Well, I only had to remember to start and stop sleep tracking, and it did the rest for me.

Please remember that if at any time, tracking sleep, feeds, weight, activities, etc is causing you more stress than necessary, you can always drop it or take a break, or just track one thing.

Key features:

  • Track sleep, feedings, diaper changes, growth, activities, etc
  • Sleep recommendations based on your baby’s age and behavior
  • Data analytics to help improve sleep

2. Food Delivery: Uber Eats, DoorDash

Best for: A stress-free meal when you need a break from the kitchen

Early postpartum is rough, no two ways about it. And sometimes you just don’t have the time or energy to cook! Having an app like Uber Eats or DoorDash can be a total lifesaver. Whatever your tummy desires, delivered right to your door. No need to put on outdoor clothes and shoes, get the baby dressed and strapped into a car seat, all just so you can go have a warm meal you did not prepare yourself. Order what you’d like from the comfort of your recliner and take a breather, you deserve it!

Key features:

  • Not having to leave your home!
  • Huge range of restaurant options to have food delivered from
  • Quick delivery, including 24-hour services in some areas

3. Grocery Delivery: Instacart, Shipt, Walmart +

Best for: Avoiding the grocery store with a baby in tow

Grocery shopping while postpartum can be a drag, especially with a newborn and an infant car seat to lug around. Instacart, Shipt and Walmart Plus are sanity savers to avoid dragging yourself (and the baby) out to the store. These apps allow you to shop for groceries from your favorite local stores, with deliveries of all your essentials straight to your door in as little as an hour, without having to put on pants or a bra! Win!

Key features:

  • Access to deliveries from your local stores like Sprouts, Costco, Target, and international food options like 99 Ranch, Cardenas & Hmart.
  • Same-day delivery (depending on availability)
  • Not just for groceries! Even Lowes is on Instacart!

4. Quick Delivery of Baby Supplies: Amazon, Target

Best for: Last-minute baby essentials when you’re running low

Babies need a lot of stuff, and sometimes you might lose track of what needs a refill; diapers, wipes, or diaper pail refill bags, etc. Amazon and Target have robust baby sections, and both offer fast delivery options.

Target drive up has been a game changer for us. Put the order for more Huggies Little Snugglers in, and when it’s ready, I pull up and without getting the baby out of her seat, they drop off my order right in my car. Or, Mr. Perez can go pick up the order, since I added him as my shopping partner in the app. Perfect system to get out of the house for a short drive, but no need to dress up as we won’t be getting out of the car!

With Amazon’s Prime Now feature, you can get many items delivered within 2 hours, making it a real game-changer during moments of baby-induced chaos. But 2 day delivery is generally fast enough for a new order of bibs, wipes, or that bouncer you’ve been eyeing.

Key features:

  • Fast delivery for baby essentials
  • Huge range of products, from diapers to baby food
  • Easy reordering options for frequently used items

5. Entertainment During Late-Night Feeds: Audible, Spotify, Netflix

Best for: Making late-night feeds a little less lonely

The 2 a.m. feedings can be some of the hardest moments for new mums, especially when you’re feeling tired and alone in the quiet of the night and baby does not want to be put down. Having a little company in the form of a great audiobook or series can help make those moments a little more enjoyable and make the time pass a little faster. Bonus: You can listen to audio books hands-free with earbuds while keeping your hands free to soothe your baby, and without the light of the phone or tablet screen to keep baby up.

Key features:

  • Audible: Thousands of audiobooks, podcasts, and stories for every mood
  • Netflix: A wide variety of shows, movies, and kids’ content for distraction-free viewing
  • Downloadable content for offline access (perfect for those times when Wi-Fi is spotty)

Wrapping It Up

The early postpartum period can be overwhelming, but the right tools can make it feel less like a never-ending struggle every day. Whether it’s tracking your baby’s sleep, getting a hot meal without cooking, or finding the perfect way to pass the time during late-night feedings, these five apps just make things a little easier. Try them out—you deserve it! 💛
