Baby bath time essentials
Bath time with your little baby can be such a special time! Babies usually love playing in the water and it makes a good start to a nightly bedtime routine for your little one.
To make things go real smooth, here’s a list of supplies to get ready. The things that made it fun for both baby and parents.
- Get the right bath tub. We have used the Frida Baby Grow with Me bath tub since my daugther was born. The sling attachment gave so much security to bathing a really small slippery-when-wet newborn. A great alternative with similar features would be Skip Hop 4-in-1 Baby Bath Tub. They both have that sling support that can be used in different configurations as your baby grows, and are a large enough tub for when your baby doesn’t need the sling anymore.
- Getting a good baby bath wash is an essential part of setting up your bath time essentials. Get something fragrance free so as to not add any potential irritants to your baby’s fresh skin. We used Baby Dove from when baby was a newborn, and later on added some variety when she was a toddler, trying Aquaphor and Honest fragrance free bath washes.
- Getting baby’s bath water at just the right temperature is a major key to bath time being a fun time. This is especially true with a newborn in winter. When you have never done it before, it can be daunting to try and guess by feel what’s a comfortable temperature for your baby’s bath water. This is why I got the b&h bath thermometer and having it look like a rubber ducky makes for one more waterproof bath toy baby can play with!
- A baby bath rinser was a bath time addition that I had no idea existed before getting into it. I love the soft and flexible rinser from Munchkin, and later on tried the one from Frida baby, which is rigid but has a waterfall pour side that my toddler enjoys now. Both do the job, but I particularly like that the Munchkin one is softer and costs less.

Baby bath towels are so so cute! We had a few gifted to us and used them during the newborn phase when baby was really so little. But they really are not essential as you can just use whatever towels you already have, or purchase more regular adult towels and you’ll happy use the same ones as baby grows.
After you get baby all cleaned up, it’s important to moisturize their skin, again sticking with fragrance free products. We switch between Vaseline and Aveeno Baby eczema therapy balm and cream. The balm is thicker and great if your baby has dry skin. We use it on baby’s body, and the cream on her face, as the thicker products don’t do good for her face.
Wishing you all the best on your parenthood journey. If you are working on your baby registry, check out this post that covers everything you need.
