Your Essential Guide to Packing a Diaper Caddy

The Basics: Essential Items to Include
When preparing a diaper caddy, it is crucial to include essential items that ensure you are well-equipped for diaper changes, and there will be many! A well-stocked diaper caddy makes sure you are always ready, even for a surprise blowout.
Diapers are, arguably, the most important item to include. Having an adequate supply of the appropriate size makes changes quick – you don’t have to go searching through the closet under the stairs for the right size! Keep enough diapers in your caddy to get you through at least a few days’ worth of diaper changes, if possible. We use the Huggies Little Snugglers and Pampers Pure Diapers, both of which are fragrance free, and easily accessible on Amazon and in retail stores.
Another essential item is baby wipes. I prefer to keep a large pack in the caddy, close and easily accessible, so it will be a while before it needs refilling. We love the Huggies Natural Care Unscented wipes, and the Costco Kirkland wipes come in a large pack you won’t need run out of quickly.
Diaper rash cream is another valuable item to consider, as it prevents and treats diaper rash. Having a tube of diaper cream readily available in the caddy is a proactive way to manage and prevent discomfort effectively. Look for one with at least 40% zinc oxide for treating diaper rash. For prevention, we use a generous amount of Vaseline for a skin barrier with every day time diaper change, and Aquaphor or Desitin diaper rash cream at bedtime, when baby willl stay in the same diaper for longer.
I also like to keep antibacterial hand wipes in my diaper caddies in case of accidents. When babies get bigger and faster and can reach places, you need to clean up poop diapers fast! But just in case of an accident, antibacterial wipes will have yours and their hands clean again very quickly.
Having a high value toy close by can also quickly provide some entertainment for your baby, especially once they can roll and want to roll away even mid changes! Something they don’t often get access, especially if it’s not actually a dedicated baby item, can be surprisingly effective. A kitchen spoon, the box the diaper rash cream came in, an empty pack of wipes. Of course all while supervised by you at all times.
When treating or preventing diaper rash, it is recommended to make sure that your baby’s bottom is completely dry before putting on the new diaper. I like to have a fan nearby to help make this go faster. A handheld fan is fun and exciting for the baby, but fanning gets old fast. An electric fan gets the job done faster and is easier on the caregiver’s wrist. The Momcozy stroller fan even has lights, which are always fascinating to babies! You still have to be fast though, baby might be over the diaper change quickly, especially when they are fully mobile.

Organizational Tips for Your Diaper Caddy
Many diaper caddies come with sections or pockets designed specifically to fit common products. Use these compartments to separate larger items from smaller ones, which can help prevent clutter and chaos. For example, a large pocket can be dedicated to storing extra diapers, while smaller slots can hold toys and creams, helping you quickly locate what you need without rummaging through the entire caddy.
It helps to keep items in the same spot every time, and put them back where they were before, so that each caretaker is not re-learning where everything is every time.
By applying these organizational tips, you can use your diaper caddy as an efficient tool for managing diaper changing supplies, making the entire process smoother for all involved.
Maintaining and Refreshing Your Diaper Caddy
Supplies such as diapers, wipes, and barrier creams should be readily available and in sufficient quantity to avoid last-minute scrambles during changing sessions. At every refill, try to put in enough to get you at least through the week. We’re trying to limit the number of times we have to rummage through the closet below the stairs!
Wishing you few blowouts, and easy quick diaper changes! 💛
