Beach Vacation Packing Checklist when traveling with a Toddler

Traveling with a toddler can be challenging, but it is always so worth it when you see the joy on their face enjoying the sand and other activities at your destination.

We recently enjoyed a week at the beautiful beaches of Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico. Packing efficiently so we had everything we needed was a big part of making everything go smoothly so that we could just enjoy the time in the sun with family.

If you are able to, checking a bag with most of your family’s needs can greatly take the stress off packing. You’ll have enough room for all the diapers and wipes you need, and not have to worry about liquid limits when packing your baby’s pouches, sunscreen etc. And a huge bonus is that getting around the airport with baby is infinitely easier with less luggage on hand!

Here is the packing checklist that made sure we enjoyed our Huatulco trip with a 14 month old toddler. I hope this helps you get started packing for your trip.

Diapers – you can buy most name brand diapers in stores in Mexico, but I have found some of them to be a little less absorbent, so I try to at least have enough of our usual diapers for all the nights so that I know for sure that it can hold up overnight. If checking a bag, taking enough for the whole trip also saves you from needing to do a store run as soon as you arrive.

Vaseline works for us as one item for baby skin after her bath, as well as a diaper barrier.

Laundry detergent sheets are a super lightweight and compact solution for being able to wash yours or baby’s clothes in the hotel room sink in case of any accidents involving baby poop or pee.

Baby powder or cornstarch can be helpful in getting fine sand off yours and baby’s skin after a great time at the beach. The beaches in Huatulco and around our home have more grainy sand that easily came off, so we didn’t get to try this hack. Let me know if this helps you!

Every vacation we have taken with baby has started out as a daunting idea, and has 100% always ended up being worth it! I hope you have a great trip as well!
